Chandrakauns is one of the most recently created ragas. It is created by replacing of Malkauns with . This raga can’t be grouped under any of the presently accepted thaats. Still it is grouped under Bhairavi as it originated from Malkauns, which is from Bhairavi thaat. It is one of the Kouns variants. Only and are the komal notes in this raga. Both and are avoided, but gets used as a note sometimes, in higher octave, during . The phrases can be in all three octaves. There is one more Chandrakouns called Kafi Thaat Chandrakauns or Bageshree Chandrakauns, which is considered an older form.
