Khamaj is the representative raga of the Khamaj thaat. It omits in and uses all the seven notes in . Both forms of are used, in aroh and in avaroh. Rest all notes are shuddha. This raga is mostly used for semi-classical presentations such as Thumri, Tappa, Dadra, Bhajan along with chhota khyal. Often the other forms of the notes are also used and then it is called Mishra Khamaj.
